2018 Golf Outing and Scholarship Winners

On June 25, Greater Alliance Hopes & Dreams Foundation held its annual Golf Outing at Edgewood Country Club. The day began with a putting contest and lunch overlooking the course. After a sun-filled day of 18 holes, golfers were treated to dinner, prizes and a silent auction.

During the dinner, Greater Alliance Federal Credit Union honored its founder, Jerry D’Ambrosio. He was the credit union’s first President/CEO who took a stagnant credit union and reinvented it into one of the largest and most profitable in the country. His greatest sense of accomplishment was building his credit union team made up of intelligent people who were willing to work hard and learn together.

“It was my honor to present Jerry with this award,” said Glenn Guinto, CEO, Greater Alliance Federal Credit Union. “We continue his work with an incredible team who believes in the same dream that Jerry did, allowing us to grow today.”

The foundation also awarded its annual scholarships to Shane Ciongoli, Dante LaRocco, Meagan Minchala and Aliyah Walker. The scholarships are awarded, not necessarily to the straight-A student but to the students with outstanding character who are looking to help pursue a career dedicated to teaching or helping children who are disabled or disadvantaged. Scholarships varied between $1,500 and $3,500.

The 140 golfers helped to raise over $25,000 for next year’s scholarships and other programs. This was the largest and most successful outing to date. Proceeds from this event and others throughout the year are dedicated to supporting programs, activities and research aimed at helping less fortunate and handicapped children and families through grants, donations and scholarships.

About Greater Alliance Hopes & Dreams Foundation For Children
Greater Alliance Hopes & Dreams Foundation for Children is a non-profit foundation based in Bergen County, NJ. The foundation serves the community through monetary donations that help charitable organizations reach their goals and families overcome their financial obstacles. It strives to reach both handicapped children and those working to make a bigger impact in their lives. Monies received to help the children come from two main fundraising events held each year: the Annual Golf Outing and Annual Beefsteak Dinner at The Brownstone. The donated amounts are dispersed to organizations and families through the help of our Greater Alliance Hopes & Dreams Board Members. Donated gifts have supported our partner organizations, programs, projects, scholarships, and many more.

Tools For School

We have partnered with Bergen Volunteer Center to ensure that all children in our community have the basic academic tools needed to succeed in school.

NOW THROUGH AUGUST 23RD we will be collecting school materials for all ages. All donations will be given to the Children’s Aid and Family Services located in Paramus, NJ.

Message from the President

Dear Valued Member:

I hope you and your families are enjoying the summer months and everything this season has to offer – we sure are at Greater Alliance. As I noted in previous issues of our newsletter, summer is typically a busy time for us, enjoying the fruits of our labor during the winter months when we’re locked indoors fine tuning our financial products and services to serve you better.

We take great great pride in seeing our members get financially situated – whether it’s through our deposit accounts, various lending products or just simply seeking advice from any one of our staff. I continue to receive great feedback and I want to thank you for sharing them. Good feedback or otherwise, we like hearing from you. I read them all and it gives us an opportunity
to make the necessary adjustments to meet your needs.

At this time I would also like to inform you about our volunteer program that was created for our employees in conjunction with our Greater Alliance Hopes & Dreams Foundation for Children. Our Volunteer team headed by Ana Suarez, Stephanie Hanuman and Nilay Avichal has set up a calendar for the whole year and there is a new volunteer opportunity for the employees to participate every month. The programs range from the ARC walk to food drives to helping at a Veterans Home. Each program has a team leader, who helps to organize the volunteers for that event and oversees the event for that particular day. Some of the planned activities are just for the employees while other activities are for the whole family. This is fully aligned with the credit union philosophy of People Helping People and making a difference in people’s lives.

The economy continues to do well and it creates unique financial possibilities for our members. Perhaps it’s time to think about making your home work for you by taking a 2nd mortgage to help finance a variety of things – from consolidating and paying off those high-interest credit cards, to buying a car, doing some home improvements or perhaps taking that much needed summer vacation with the family.

I want to thank you for continuing to spread the word about the benefits of credit union membership with your families and friends. We are seeing a steady increase in our membership as more and more people join our cooperative and take advantage of what we have to offer.

There aren’t many financial institutions that have been around for as long as we have and as we mark our 81st year, I remain proud, grateful and humbled to have the privilege to serve you and work alongside a great team of talented individuals who unselfishly volunteer their time on our Board and Supervisory committee.

Independence Day Parade

The Paramus Independence Day parade is a fun-filled event to celebrate the birthday of America! The parade features many different types of activities for everyone including a huge parade, music, contests, and more. The start of the parade is at the intersection of Century Road & Farview Avenue. The event is of course on July 4th, and officially starts a 9:00 AM.

Food donations will also be collected by the Paramus Sunrise Rotary to benefit the food pantry.

Event Schedule:

  • Kicking off at 9:00 AM with the traditional ribbon cutting ceremony at the intersection of Century Raod & Farview Avenue, heading north of Farview Avenue ending at Memorial Elementary School
  • the parade is followed by a closing ceremony featuring the 2018 Grand Marshal, the winners of the Float Content, Stroller Contest, Bicycle Contest and Mr. and Miss 4th of July

Reg CC Changes & Mobile Deposit Endorsement

Starting July 1, 2018 Online Banking members who use Remote Deposit Capture (RDC) or Mobile Deposit will need to endorse check with the following statement “For mobile deposit at Greater Alliance FCU only”.

These changes will be implemented to help prevent duplicates and to also shield any financial institution from liability when duplicates do happen. If a check is not endorsed with the following statement starting July 1, 2018, the check will not be deposited and will be returned. To avoid any delay with your deposit please remember to endorse your check with the statement mentioned above.

NJ Veterans Home Bingo

Veteran Home Residents are encouraged to be active in an environment which stimulates involvement, self-esteem, productivity and freedom for independent choices.

This is accomplished by providing diverse recreational activities of interest to each resident. Activities provided are physical, social, intellectual, sensory, spiritual, creative, and community oriented.

Recreational activities are available to the veteran home residents on an individual basis, small or large group, or independent participation. Activities are available 7 days of the week, including evenings.

Our volunteers and donations are incorporated into our Activity Programs to provide a full array of Activities for each resident according to his or her capacity and preference thereby ensuring an enhanced quality of life.

Donate to the Veterans Home

The Paramus Veterans Home is located on 23-acres in northeastern Bergen County, opened on August 4, 1986.

It has two modern residential buildings, able to accommodate 336 residents, and two fenced-in garden areas. In the courtyard, near the main entrance, a monument stands in memory of those who served in World War I, World War II, Korea, and Vietnam.

The facility is conveniently located off the Garden State Parkway at Exit 165.

They are Medicare A Certified. Licensed by the New Jersey Department of Health and surveyed by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

21st Annual ARC Walk and Family Fun Fest

The 21st Annual Arc Walk and Family Fun Fest is an incredible event for members of the Bergen and Passiac Communities. Enjoy fun activities for everyone, including walk, music, games, and food. Located at the Olsen Park Bogota Recreation Center (1612 W. Main Street, Bogota, NJ), the event is scheduled for June 3rd, 2018. Sign in begins at 9:30 AM and the walk officially begins at 10:30 AM.

All proceeds from the walkathon will go directly to The Arc of Bergen and Passaic Counties programs and services that benefit over 1,200 residents.

Event Schedule:

  • Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. Bagels, coffee, and entertainment.
  • The walk begins at 10:30 a.m.
  • Live music at 11:30 a.m.
  • Lunch at 12 noon. Hot dogs, sodas, popcorn, games, and activities.

Donate to the ARC Walk

The Arc of Bergen and Passaic is a private not-for-profit organization of families, self-advocates, professionals and community members dedicated to assisting individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. The Arc is a membership organization affiliated with The Arc of New Jersey and The Arc of the United States.
