Greater Alliance is a forward-thinking and growing credit union built upon decades of commitment to members, community, and service. Founded in 1937 by five dedicated educators as Central Bergen Teachers’ Federal Credit Union, the organization was established to serve teachers and their immediate families.
In the 1980s, the credit union expanded its field of membership under the guidance of the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), welcoming a diverse mix of employee groups and associations and becoming known as Central Bergen Federal Credit Union.
Building on this strong foundation, the credit union continued to grow and, in February 2005, further expanded its membership and adopted the name Greater Alliance Federal Credit Union. Today, Greater Alliance is a premier community credit union in New Jersey, proudly owned by more than 20,000 members and committed to the financial well-being of the families, businesses, and communities we serve.
Our Philosophy
We are a NOT FOR PROFIT organization – All profits go back to You, not shareholders like at a bank. When you open an account at Greater Alliance, you are much more than a member, you are a part owner of a financial alliance. Our goal is to provide the highest quality financial services, through commitment and strength, exceeding the expectations of our members within the communities we serve.

Member Eligibility
Greater Alliance Federal Credit Union Membership is open to anyone who:
- Lives
- Works
- Worships
- Attends School
- Regularly conducts business in the listed counties.
- Immediate family members include spouse, parent, stepparent, child, stepchild, sibling, step-sibling, grandchild, grandparent, or great-grandparent.
